About this tool

Enter a date of birth to get your exact age in years, months and days, plus the same age expressed in total months, weeks, days and hours. Change the "age as on" date to find your age on any past or future date, which is useful for exam, job and admission cut-offs. It also shows the weekday you were born and how many days remain until your next birthday.

How your exact age is counted

Age is counted in whole years first, then whole months, then the remaining days. If the day of the month in the "as on" date is earlier than your birth day, a month is borrowed and the days are counted from the previous month. For example, someone born on 15 May 1990 is 36 years, 5 months and 9 days old on 24 October 2026, which is 13,311 days.

Finding age on a cut-off date

Exams, job notifications and school admissions usually fix an "as on" date, such as 1 January or 31 July of the year, and ask for the age on that date, not today. Enter your date of birth, set Age as on to the cut-off date, and read the result. For instance, a person born on 31 December 1995 is 30 years and 1 day old on 1 January 2026. Always read the notification, because some rules count completed years only and some allow relaxations for categories.

Born on 29 February

A leap-day birthday does not exist in most years. This calculator treats 1 March as the birthday in non-leap years, so someone born on 29 February 2000 is 0 years, 11 months and 30 days old on 28 February 2001 and exactly 1 year old on 1 March 2001. Some legal and official systems use 28 February instead, so confirm the rule for your purpose.

Age and income tax

Income tax treats a resident individual aged 60 or more as a senior citizen, and 80 or more as a super senior citizen, with higher exemption limits under the old regime. Age is generally checked at any time during the financial year, so set Age as on to 31 March of that year to see which category applies. The income tax calculator on this site asks for the age group for the same reason.

Frequently asked questions

How is age calculated in years, months and days?

Whole years since the birth date, then whole months, then the remaining days. If the day of the month has not yet been reached, a month is borrowed.

Is my date of birth stored?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

How do I find the number of days between two dates?

Enter the earlier date as the date of birth and the later date in "Age as on". The "In days" row shows the exact number of days between them.

Does the calculator count the day of birth?

It counts the days elapsed, so the day you were born is day 0 and your first birthday is day 365 or 366.
