Transparent images
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become white when you convert a PNG or WebP image to JPG. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
When to convert
- A website or portal rejects WebP, so convert to JPG or PNG.
- A photo saved as PNG is too large to email, so convert it to JPG or WebP.
- You want faster pages, so convert JPG and PNG images to WebP.
- A design tool or print shop asks for a specific format.
Files that may not open
Animated GIFs keep only their first frame, because the picture is redrawn on a still canvas. iPhone photos in HEIC format open in some browsers but not others. If a HEIC file fails, change the camera setting to Most Compatible, or share the photo as a JPG, then convert here. Every conversion redraws the image, which also removes camera metadata such as location.

What happens to transparency?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas turn white. PNG and WebP keep transparency.
Is WebP safe to use?
All current browsers support it, and it is usually 25 to 35% smaller than JPG at similar quality.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Files are processed in your browser and never leave your device.
Does converting reduce quality?
Converting to JPG or WebP is lossy and quality depends on the slider. PNG output is lossless. Avoid converting a JPG repeatedly, because each pass loses a little detail.
Can I convert to PDF?
